Everything comes back full circle to the vintage summer dress
Posted on 8/1/2012 by Rack Room Shoes in Categories: summer. womens. women. spin. magazine. anthropologie. coffee. music. bookshop. vintage. dress. paisley. plaid. nautical. anchors. fleurs de lis. floral.
From the cover of Spin Magazine to Anthropologie billboards and - literally - every single bar, coffee shop, music venue, smoothie place and bookshop I go to, it's clear that vintage really is here to stay.
I suppose you could argue that vintage never went out of fashion, but this particular brand of vintage dresses sure isn't dying out any time soon. From paisley to plaid and everything in between, there's no print too old-fashioned to be made cute again. I've seen nautical anchors, fleurs de lis, floral designs in at least a thousand different varieties, mushrooms, Japanese cherry blossoms and tsunami waves, art nouveau swirls, Escher-like fish and even one memorable dress that seemed to be printed with topological subway lines.
But you know what? When I list them out like that, I notice a trend toward the unique and the modern. If vintage means that nothing's new, just borrowed, then maybe these dresses aren't so vintage after all. Can you be vintage and unique at the same time? What do you think?
