Meryl Streep, one generation up but always an inspiration

I'll be the first to agree that Meryl Streep hasn't exactly been shooting for the Sophie's Choice roles anymore, but I'll also be the first to say that I don't mind in the least. As the finest living actor - and you can quote me on that! - I'm glad she's taking some time to work on fun projects like the upcoming Hope Springs.
You see, I don't think the premiere of either Silkwood or The Hours would quite call for billowy red dresses and oversized belt buckles, which is exactly the look Streep went for on the Hope Springs red carpet. With the loudness of the dress balanced by the three-part, simple black accoutrements of glasses, belt and open-toed heels, Streep was an ideal mix of fun and fashion, free of statement or complication.
And those shoes! I know a pair like them myself - Meoww by XAppeal, a sleek black high heel with a chic toe opening to give a flash of matching nail polish.
So Meryl may be one generation up from me, but the woman is still a fashion icon as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and the greatest living actor. Can't forget that!
