Sending my kids to camp properly equipped
Posted on 7/21/2012 by Rack Room Shoes in Categories: kids. camp. boys. girls. children. camping. school. shoes. intrepid. sperry. boat shoes. boat. casual. comfortable.
Camp season is, thankfully, just like school season, but with more bug bites and scraped knees. When a pair of shoes got lost in a muddy bog yesterday, I figured it was time to head to Rack Room Shoes for yet another set of Intrepids by Sperry. Boat shoes tend to be perfect for my two, as they're constantly in and out of the water at camp, whether canoeing or swimming. And when it's time for a nature walk, they need something comfortable to stroll in.
Harder to deal with? When one of them stumbled on a hornets' nest, or another fell out of a tree and had the wind knocked out of him, or the time both managed to get atrocious rope burn shimmying through an obstacle course. Naturally, nothing holds them back for long, and within hours - pockmarked by hornet stings or not - they're at it again.
I suppose it takes an expert pair of shoes to last through all that wear and tear. In my opinion it also takes an expert mom. When they come running home with scraped knees, it's hard to know whether to comfort them or save my breath - soon enough they'll be skateboarding down the driveway and I'll be yelling after them not to forget their elbow pads.
