Striking summer trends - the sleeveless blue dress

I have been known to exaggerate my street fashion sightings before, but I'll swear to this - the newest late July trend is sleeveless blue summer dresses. Notable for their loose and billowy quality, these dresses are keeping ladies cool across the city. But why blue? I ask myself. Sure enough, I've got more than a few blue dresses to spare, but where'd this sudden uprising come from?

I've seen the blue dress in all shades, too - navy, electric, periwinkle and teal variations, blues that are mostly green, a few greens that are mostly blue. If I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd say that everyone's been hanging out at the beach, noticed the multifaceted quality of the water (so many hues!) and said "I want a dress like that."

So here we are in the middle of summer and everyone's made good on their apparel desires. I have to admit, we're all better off for it. With seas of blue shimmering along city sidewalks and through the parks, there's barely any need to hit up the beach.
