The public school uniform close call

"Close call" is what my son calls it at least. I'm not entirely convinced school uniforms are a bad idea, but he and his brother and all of their friends aren't fans. So they're pretty happy that the Board of Education struck down the potential ruling, and meanwhile I'm wondering what all the fuss would be about. Sometimes I'd rather see one of my kids in khakis and a tie rather than face the sight of a 14-year-old's underwear because not buying pants in your own waist size is the height of cool.
The good news is, however, that the Board of Education is cracking down on clothes in public school, and while it's the high schoolers who are bound to bear the brunt of the style-conformity, it's reaching down to my two as well. So, they won't have to tuck in their shirts (the horror!) or learn to tie a tie, but we will be investing in a pair of shoes that aren't made for basketball but worn in math class. I've got my eye on a duo of Bodegas by Highland Creek that I saw at Rack Room Shoes.
While there's no guarantee anyone's manners will improve alongside the dress code, at least back-to-school shopping is bound to be a more refined experience.
