The inner theater geek stops by for an episode of Glee

8/24/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Lea Michele rocking a gorgeous gold knit cap alongside a long-sleeved cream blouse and an awesome mulberry-colored skirt, it certainly wasn't your usual August attire, but such is the life of a TV star.

Paul Rudd looks like that guy you work with, but better dressed

8/24/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Genial, friendly, casually awesome, whatever you want to call it, Paul Rudd has it. He's the guy next door, the co-worker you're most pleased to run into at the break room Keurig machine.

The back-to-school shoe deluge

8/24/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Schools require all sorts of shoes, and when your boys actually have some taste (at least in sneakers if not much else, especially broccoli) things become expensive quickly.

Back-to-school shopping with my sis

8/23/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

I'd be lying if I denied that it's a point of pride that my little sister comes to me for fashion advice. It's probably not something I'd share in the baseball dugout or discuss with the guys at the bar, but hey, I know my female fashion a bit better than the next guy.

Olivia Munn goes pink with a few frills

8/23/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Highlighted by curling patterns and a slight frill along the neckline and bottom fringe, it was casual-fun made classy by beautiful, low cream heels. Want a look like that?

It's Dirty Dancing's 25th birthday

8/23/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

So, on Dirty Dancing's 25th birthday, how about you tell me your favorite iconic movie dress? Anything from Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina to whatever premiered last weekend - let me know your pick!

One more post about Jessica Biel and movie premieres

8/23/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

The (still uninteresting) sci-fi action flick just had its UK premiere. Colin Farrell pulled it together with a nice striped tie (finally!) and charcoal suit. Even Bill Nighy showed up, looking svelte and supremely English in his blue oxford and sports coat.

Clive Owen is typically in good shape

8/21/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

He wears a suit well, in that British way that reminds you of James Bond (don't even get me started on Daniel Craig!), but with a far more affable character. He seems like a cheery and likable everyday guy - just one who knows how to pull off Armani.

Jessica Biel wore THIS but no one could get Colin Farrell to put on a tie?

8/21/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

After Jessica Biel's stroke of genius at the last Total Recall premiere (still no interest in the movie, thanks), I've been following her fashion choices over a variety of red carpets, from Los Angeles to New York to Comic Con and now Germany!

Skater kid style has stuck around

8/21/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Kids - guys and girls - are sporting these cushiony, stylish sneakers all over the place. Neon designs on a black or gray background are usually pretty key, like on those Blitz Lows by DC Shoes. It's nice to see my childhood style getting the mainstream acknowledgement I always knew it deserved!

Admitting that I daydream about back-to-school shopping with a daughter

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Teen clothes can go in two directions these days - gross or astoundingly trendy. Because the clothes are marketed toward high school kids with one eye on grownup styles and the other firmly settled on casual comfort, all the trends seem so easy and fun, from skinny jeans to summery scarves, totes and the fashionable rumpled oxford.

When the shoes match the shawl, anything goes

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Then, lo and behold, up pops Biel in a white dress with matching white lace shawl and heels that were just the right shade of white to work with both. Eureka!

Action star style men's aviators

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

While most men these days can lose their hair with grace, few do it with the style Jason Statham manages. The celebrity looks as though he's planned his male pattern baldness as some sort of over-the-top fashion statement, because it's clear he wouldn't have the same verve and attitude without it.

Scholarly Shoes - Which Style Matches Your Passion?

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Does calculus make you cringe? Parlez-vous bien fran?ais? Are you a history buff? Does Jane Austen just get you? Everyone has a favorite class at school, just as everyone has that one she dreads. But how do you mix fashion with academic passion? Look no further than these scholarly shoes.

Anna Kendrick's Herve Leger shoes make for a great look

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

These gorgeous white heels wrap around her feet and ankles with a unique style that's part gladiator sandal and part lace. It went perfectly with her glistening pink Mulberry dress.

What Zach Galifianakis taught me about brown suede shoes

8/20/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

When I think of my style icons, comedic clown Zach Galifianakis is somewhere on the list several notches below Liberace. But here I am about to praise him for some excellent style at the recent premiere of The Campaign.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a double-breasted suit well

8/19/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Gordon-Levitt, for better or worse, didn't show up to the red carpet premiere in bike shorts and helmet though. At first sight, his dark blue getup and striped tie appeared a little bland, but on closer inspection, I realized that he was pulling off a double-breasted suit - not a common sight nowadays.

A clogged subway is almost worth experiencing with all the fashion

8/18/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Public transportation is tough, especially now that the school year is starting up again. Every day, I'm seeing more students crowd into subway cars and onto train platforms, unintentionally jostling people with their backpacks and messenger bags.

My Weezer style comes full circle

8/17/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

When Rivers Cuomo sings "I look just like Buddy Holly" on Weezer's Blue Album, it definitely paints a portrait of the artist.

Bradley Cooper plays a lot of writers

8/15/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

And it's true, Cooper dresses up well in an action star suit and tie, like an American James Bond. But he always looks more comfortable in the hyper-casual, slept-in look of a rumpled oxford with the sleeves rolled up.

Anderson Cooper is the best casual dresser alive

8/14/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

There's a famous saying that you've surely heard before - the clothes make the man. This is certainly true for most of us, particularly when it comes to first impressions. But it's not true for Anderson Cooper.

The Dark Knight Rises, and so do shoe prices

8/13/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

But when you've got boys begging you for a pair of Batman velcro trainers, who can say no? If it weren't for Rack Room Shoes, I'd never get a solid deal on the styles my family and I need and love.

One last summer weekend away from home

8/13/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

It feels so good to get away during these late summer weekends. As the stress and expectations of back-to-school season start to mount, sometimes I just feel like I need a day trip out to where there's no overwhelming hustle and bustle.

Letting my nerd flag fly

8/13/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Maybe it's the telephone booth time machine, maybe it's the goofy ties and professorial hipster chic.

Four sure-fire concert dress tips

8/12/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

As anyone who enjoys live music surely knows, there tends to be two types of concert experiences - the sit-down and the stand-up.

More coffee shop fashion

8/11/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

There have been a few cool days lately, which seems like a hint at fall.

Robert Pattinson in an odd place with an odder person, still stylish

8/11/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Rocking some recovery stubble and an awesome tailored suit, Robert Pattinson - Twilight heartthrob and Kristen Stewart's former beau - recently showed up at the New York Stock Exchange for the opening bell.

Elisabeth Moss steps out in black and beige

8/11/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Classic black with a touch of lace, this is a look that never goes out of style - fitting for a cast member of television's most stylish drama. It contrasted well with the side-swept bangs and red lipstick, but best matched the beige pumps.

Aubrey Plaza shows a softer side

8/11/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

As April on the show, Plaza is anything but warm. Defined by glowering glances and deadpan humor that's as parched as the Sahara, April is impossible not to love - mostly because she's on a TV show.

So the Broadway Softball League exists and has playoffs

8/10/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

New cleats were always the best part of heading back to school and the start of baseball season! I still have my pair, not unlike Jonas' own - Nike Premier 3s.

Style daydreams from Neil Young songs

8/10/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Harvest moons show up around the autumnal equinox (that's late September, says Wikipedia), and just the thought of that has me in the autumnal mood.

Meryl Streep, one generation up but always an inspiration

8/9/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

With the loudness of the dress balanced by the three-part, simple black accoutrements of glasses, belt and open-toed heels, Meryl Streep was an ideal mix of fun and fashion, free of statement or complication.

Clarke Peters making fashion statements on and off The Wire

8/8/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

One of the first things I tend to ask people after I've met them, children excepted, is if they've seen The Wire. It's one of the best shows that's been on television, much less HBO - an intoxicating mix of inner-city politics, drug trade and violence that's as frightening as it is enthralling.

Kid shoes are so much better than adult shoes

8/8/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Dress them up, and a snazzy set of pink and black plaid Atwood Low by Vans is more than enough.

Doing denim like Bruce Springsteen

8/7/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

While it might not have the beats of Jay Z or the YouTube hits of Gotye, this album seemed to strike the right chord and provide the right music in the room and made for a memorable night.

Part of the 20-something in me would still wear Spider-Man shoes

8/6/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Now that the back-to-school sales are at their peak, maybe I should start petitioning shoe companies to develop superhero sneakers in men's size 11.

Father and son fishing trip, mother and son shopping trip

8/6/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

My husband and I have worked out a very clever system. While he takes one of the boys on a daytrip, I take the other shopping, and then we switch the next weekend. So far it's worked wonderfully.

The last little league game of the season

8/5/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

The summer's winding down, which means several things - back to school and the end of the summertime little league season among them.

Three days of rain, three days with my favorite umbrella

8/4/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

You know what they say about the glass being half full? Well, this weekend it was half full of rainwater.

Mindy Kaling knows how to rock preppy casual fashion

8/4/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Based on her bestselling book and witty comedy, I know Mindy Kaling is as much of an intellectual as she is a riot.

Summer Sandals

8/3/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

From the boardwalk to the sidewalk, pack the right sandals for your summer trip.

The quirky joys of fashion contact lenses

8/3/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

What would it be like to have blue eyes for the first time in my life? Or blue eyes one week and green the next? Would it be deceptive to show up for a first date with bright baby blues only to reveal your true colors a few more dates down the line?

Enough makeup to make you blush

8/2/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Makeup is a tricky thing. Because of its versatility, it's a great way to express yourself and really say something about both your character and your style. But that same versatility means things can go wrong really quickly.

Playing rugby, almost breaking a few bones, having the time of my life

8/2/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

During the Euro Cup finals, I was frequenting one particular English-style pub quite a bit and managed to make friends with a few British guys who enthusiastically included me in their rounds of pints.

How much leg is too much leg?

8/2/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Ah, summer. The time of year when you can pull off wearing a bathing suit in public, but the miniskirt still makes you feel scandalous.

Getting ready for school sports once more

8/2/2012 | 1 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

While my boys are still blessedly young for sports to get too intense and dramatic (though don't think my husband isn't counting the years), my neighbor and close friend has been giving me an earful about her son.

Oh boy, it's back-to-school shopping season already?

8/2/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

Back-to-school sales are gearing up to begin this weekend, and once I got over the general shock of it all, I realized there's no time like the present and penciled in an afternoon visit for the boys and myself.

Everything comes back full circle to the vintage summer dress

8/1/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

From the cover of Spin Magazine to Anthropologie billboards and - literally - every single bar, coffee shop, music venue, smoothie place and bookshop I go to, it's clear that vintage really is here to stay.

Let's call it Olympic Fever

8/1/2012 | 0 Comments | by Rack Room Shoes

I pulled a muscle. I'd say the hamstring, but then again that would make it sound like I knew what I'm talking about.
